The buzz about Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw and her better half of 12 years, Roderick James Nuttal’s crashed marriage may have come and gone but one thing that is still shrouded in secrecy is the real reason behind the unexpected separation from one of the then best couples in the entertainment industry.

It would be recalled that there were serious of tales that trailed the breakup and one of them was that her hubby who’s the Managing Director of Ledrop Nigeria Ltd (agents for Jack Daniels and Piper Hiedsieck) was romancing his secretary whose name was unknown, hence our curiosity to get to the root of the story.

This office after several investigations discovered that the said secretary is the main architect of the crashed union. Her name, we can exclusively disclose is Angela Gordon a twenty four years old pretty lady from the South South part of the country. Angela according to our source is a staff at Mr. Nuttal’s company located at Ligali Ayorinde, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The duo according to the story kicked off a secret romance which was fueled by Angela’s mum three years ago while kate’s marriage with her husband was still intact until the actress got wind of their affair.

The news of the romance we reliably learnt was brought to Kate’s notice by one of the aggrieved staff of her husband when it was obvious Angela was towing the part of a second wife.

The revelation we learnt resulted to a surprise visit to her hubby’s office. “Aunty Kate stormed her husband’s office on this fateful evening unannounced and was shocked to find her husband with Angela in an uncompromising position” and It was also learnt that she had initially lied that she was on a movie set in Lekki before paying the unwelcomed visit that ended their union”, the source revealed.

We further squealed that serious argument ensued between the two ladies and Mr. Nuttal we learnt had to confirm his affair with his secretary to his wife who became perplexed immediately. Our grapevine also added that the height of it was when Kate’s hubby gave her an option of either accepting things as it were or bow out of the marriage if she can’t stand his relationship with Angela.

The outcome of the storm however was the official statement from the estranged couple months later announcing their separation without any concrete reason when it was obvious the marriage could not go on.

Angela now cruises a black Range Rover Sport and lives in a cozy 3-bedroom apartment around Lekki phase 1 courtesy of her white lover.

The new madam of the house as she’s popularly called by friends also allegedly miscarried a baby for Nuttal around late last year 2012 while the duo is also said to be flaunting their romance since the couple went their separate ways with Angela’s mum being her backbone.

In our facts finding mission, this office got in touch with Kate Henshaw who told us to feel free to ask her any question, she however denied the angle of the secretary, “No, that’s not the fact, Mr. Nuttal’s secretary is Yetunde and she has nothing to do with this, but for Angela, I don’t have much to say on this but I know her, she’s one of the Sales girls, so thanks for getting in touch all the same”, she ended in a final tone. Efforts to speak to Mr. Nuttal proved abortive as at press time.

Actress Mercy Johnson Okojie and her husband Prince Odi Okojie have moved from their Omole Estate home to a massive new house in the Ajah area of Lagos.

Mercy and Odi moved to the house this April, and dedicated it two days ago.

Prince Odi, who is said to be a successful businessman, built the house himself and is also building another massive house in Omole Estate.

Africans stand to lose as US axes visa lottery

WASHINGTON – Africans could be the big losers as the United States reforms its immigration laws and eliminates the green card lottery, of which Africans are the main beneficiaries.
Half of the 50,000 residence permits handed out at random each year are earmarked for Africans. It is a hugely popular program that has allowed hundreds of thousands of Africans to settle in America since the mid 1990s.
But the ambitious reform project under debate now in Washington, which would provide papers for million undocumented immigrants, contains a clause that would do away with the lottery.
In its place would be a more selective immigration system based on skills, career and family ties.
For years the lottery has been in the crosshairs of Republicans, who control the House of Representatives and say it adds no value to the American economy.
“It’s clear that there are better ways to allocate visas than to randomly give them out through a lottery system,” said Bob Goodlatte, the Republican who leads the House Judiciary Committee. “Our immigration laws shouldn’t be based on the luck of the draw; rather, they should be designed strategically to benefit our country.”
The ‘diversity visa,’ as it is known formally, is set aside for people from countries that do not experience a lot of emigration. So Mexicans, Chinese and Filipinos, for instance, are not eligible. Africans quickly became the main ones to cash in.
All applicants need is a high school diploma or two years of work experience.
Between 2010 and 2012, one in five Africans who came to the United States to stay did so through the lottery. That made it the third most common method, at 21 percent of the total, after family reunification (43%) and refugee status or asylum seekers (23%).
By comparison, in the same period only 10 percent of Europeans who became permanent residents and 3% of Asians did so through the lottery.
“It has proven to be a way of helping those who come from the continent of Africa, those who come from a number of other areas where it is very difficult to get a visa,” said Sheila Jackson Lee, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, whose members are all Democrats.
But in an effort to preserve the comprehensive reform being negotiated for months by the two parties, the Democrats and President Barack Obama agreed to ditch the lottery.
Representative Charles Schumer, who authored the program in 1990, said it was impossible to keep it.
Schumer said the system that will replace it in 2017 is merit-based and will also give Africans a chance. On average they are more educated than people from other continents. And English-speaking Africans would get a boost because of that language skill.
But Michael Fix of the Migration Policy Institute said, “It really probably won’t admit enough people to offset the effects of the loss of the diversity visa for some years after that. It’s a long time away. It won’t be immediately offset by any means.”
The diversity visas would vanish starting next year under the reform being negotiated.
Only four percent of African immigrants — compared to 21 percent of Asians and 22 percent of Europeans — received a green card for employment reasons in 2012.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People says the number of African immigrants will go down even with the merit-based system.
“In essence, we’re concerned,” said Hilary Shelton, the NAACP Washington bureau director.
Dame Babou, who hosts a radio show that caters to Senegalese people in New York, said the scrapping of the lottery is disheartening for Africans.
“Every year many people thought this was going to be their year,” Babou said. “Again, what is being eliminated is hope.”(AFP)

OBJ, Yar’Adua, GEJ misused N1.2trn – Senate Report

A Report of the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, presented to the Senate, yesterday, revealed how the Federal Government under three successive administrations from 2002 to 2012, grossly abused funds from the nation’s Special Funds Accounts to the tune of  N1.2 trillion.
According to the report presented by Senator Ahmed Lawan, Chairman of the committee, the said amounts cut across the Natural Resources Account, Derivation and Ecology Accounts and Stabilization Account.
The Special Funds Accounts, comprising Development of Natural Resources Account, Derivation and Ecology Account and Stabilization Account were being maintained by the Federal Government of Nigeria. Senator Ahmed Lawan in his submission said that the amount was misappropriated between 2002 and 2012 by the governments of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Late President Umaru Yar’Adua and current President Goodluck Jonathan, adding that the governments at various levels abused the Special Funds Account by making several releases not related to what the accounts were designed to achieve.

Breakdown of the report  showed that  N710,489,494,960.6, N149,881,359,210 and N191,780,136,241 were reportedly misused by the three administrations in the Derivation and Ecology Account;  Development of Natural Resources Account  and Stabilization Account respectively.
According to the committee in its report, within the period under review, the sum of  one trillion, five hundred and eighteen billion, eight hundred and seventy one million, three hundred and fifty seven thousand, four hundred and twenty six naira, sixty four kobo (N1, 518, 871, 357, 426.64) was the accruals to the special funds accounts.
The sum of one trillion, two hundred and thirty five billion, one hundred and sixty six million, seven hundred and eighty one thousand, three hundred and forty seven naira, fifty two kobo (N1, 235, 166, 781, 347. 52) was the total payments from the special funds account.
Also, five hundred and eighty billion, nineteen million, six hundred and eighty two thousand, seven hundred and thirty eight naira (N580, 019, 682, 738) was released as loan; and three hundred and forty seven billion, nine hundred and ninety seven million, five hundred and eighty three thousand, and eight naira and forty one kobo (N347, 997, 583, 008.41) yet to be recovered from various loans beneficiaries.
The Report
Senator Ahmed Lawan, earlier in his presentation of the report said: “The operation of the Natural Resources Account is grossly abused because several releases under this account were not related to the intendment of the account.”
Out of a total of N329, 329, 745, 916 granted as loan, N200, 585, 790, 991. 64 is still outstanding under the Natural Resources Account; under the derivation and Ecology Account, a total of N61, 000, 000, 000.00 was granted as loan leaving an outstanding of N30, 000, 000, 000.00.
“Several  approvals made from the special funds accounts do not conform to the purposes for which the funds were established; and there were no operational guidelines for the administration, regulations, approvals and procedures for the release of money from such funds.”
It also noted that loans granted from the accounts have not been paid back several years after such loans were granted.
Involve EFCC, ICPC — Ekeremadu
In his contribution, the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, called on the Public Accounts committee to undertake further inquiry to determine whether loans given from the special funds accounts had been recovered.
Ekweremadu said in an event where the monies have not been recovered, the Senate should invite the EFCC and ICPC to wade into the matter, as failure to do so would be interpreted by the public as the National Assembly abdicating from its responsibilities.
He said: “Section 8(82) (of the constitution) said, no money shall be withdrawn from the consolidated revenue fund of the federation except to meet expenditure.
“In this situation, we have seen where monies meant for ecological fund are being used to develop airports, to build malls and then to build abattoir. So that is the crux of the matter. Most of them according to the report of the committee, indeed all of them, have not been recovered.
“This committee will need to do further work to ensure that they hear from the other side of the divide or this matter be referred to the EFCC or ICPC to do further investigation.”
Also commenting, the Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma Egba said the impunity shown in the report confirmed his earlier belief that the nation’s public finances still remain opaque after 14 years of democratic governance as they were under military rule.
His words: “All the misapplications of funds carried out by the executive in the special funds accounts since 2002 are clear attestations of an opaque public finances in Nigeria where for now, transparency and accountability are rules not adhered to, in anyway by the executive arm of government.”
Deputy Majority Leader, Senator Abdul Ningi who also doubles as Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Public Accounts, said: “This is sheer crass executive recklessness and the National Assembly indifference to it.”
N’Assembly to be blamed too — Mark
Meanwhile the Senate did not exonerate itself from the blame, stressing that the abuse was an indictment on the National Assembly because if they had carried out their work effectively, the problem would have been discovered before now.
Senate President David Mark, while reacting to the absence of guidelines for the operation of the special funds account, said: “We are taking it for granted that these funds exist and they can be used in any way and manner. And I think that is truly an indictment on the National Assembly. It is a wake up call for the National Assembly to do its work properly.
“It is an intervention fund in several areas and they are also specified: Development of mineral resources, Derivation and Ecology fund and Stabilization Account. Our problem here is how these funds are being utilized.”
He demanded from the Chairman of the Committee as to whether there were guidelines on the appropriation of such funds.

“It is a combination of their own personal issues and those who collect the loans and those who are given. We as Nigerian citizens and as the legislature, this is about our own collective intelligence.
“We must not under any guise sweep away these findings. Going forward this chamber must have to add a committee to make sure that the loans which were collected are refunded, and where there is a breach, such persons must be brought to book by being prosecuted.
“This impunity is ongoing; it has not stopped, because even in 2011 we could see the impunity by the coordinating minister. That means the trend continues.”
When asked whether there were guidelines,  Senator Lawan said, “there is no guideline. But during the public hearing, the committee asked the permanent secretary, Ministry of Finance, how he would define special funds accounts. And he said that is a discretionary account; and what that means is that they can do whatever they want with it. But again there are document of the Ministry of Finance indicating clearly the purpose for each of these three accounts and the beneficiaries, so it is not a discretionary account but there is no guideline.
“As the Senate Majority Leader stated, we are also at fault. We should have legislation and we should spell out guidelines.

DELSU student hacks into Uduaghan’s phone

A 400-level medical student of Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka, in Delta State, has been arrested by the police for allegedly hacking into Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s phone.
The student, who failed in pharmacology and pathology course  sent a text message, purportedly from the governor, to the Vice Chancellor, Prof Eric Arubayi, requesting him to upgrade his scores.
Vanguard gathered that enraged Govenor Uduaghan asked the vice chancellor to report the matter to the police and ensure the student was arrested when the matter was brought to his knowledge, as he never sent such message.
The affected student in a statement to the police, however, denied the allegation.
Investigation by Vanguard showed that the matter was causing ripples in the university, as the university authorities, apparently responding to the request, upgraded the score of the student in pharmacology.
The poser by concerned stakeholders is: Assuming, but not conceding that the text message emanated from the governor, should the vice chancellor have altered the scores of a student that failed his  examination?”
This is, however, not the first time the governor’s phone had been hacked into by fraudsters. They had hacked into his Airtel and MTN phone numbers in the past as well as his email address.
The first text message to the vice chancellor on July 24 reads: “My able VC, Chief Tony Anenih called me in respect of one boy that just wrote pathology and pharmacology exam in 400 level Medicine. My able Prof, I want you to ensure that boy passes, you know I cannot afford to disappoint Chief Tony Anenih. Am in a meeting. These are the details. CHS/04/05/88406.”
Thinking that the text message was actually from the governor, as it came from the number with which he saved the governor’s name,  Uduaghan 1 in his phone, Prof Arubayi replied, asking for the student’s name to which the hacker replied: “His name is Imala W. Kelly. My able VC,  all I want is the boy to pass. Chief Tony Anenih has been calling.”
DELSU vice chancellor, Prof Arubayi, confirmed to Vanguard in his office, Monday, that he, in fact,  received the said text message and contacted the governor after  the scores of students who scored between 48-49 in pharmacology was upgraded to 50 based on standing regulation of the university, “but he denied ever sending me such a text message.”
He said the Academic Board of the College of Health Sciences had met and approved the scores in pathology, which the student scored 46, and there was nothing that could be done about it, other than for the affected person to go for a resit, adding: “That is what I advised the governor.”
Prof Arubayi told Vanguard that it was the Provost of the College of Sciences, Dr. John Ohaju-Obodo, that drew his attention about a week after that a text message, purportedly from the governor, appointing him chairman of a juicy government  committee was received by him, but when he contacted the governor, he told him it was a scam.
He said he wasted no time when he confirmed the truth from the governor in summoning the student and handing him over to the police for cyber crime.
“I am even surprised that the police have not charged him to court, as far as I am concerned, this is an EFCC case,” he said.
He said the student was currently facing a disciplinary panel for breach of matriculation oath, but lamented that he had not appeared before the panel.
A university source said the student had been suspended, but as at Monday, he was seen attending lectures and had refused to vacate his room despite orders to that effect from the authorities.
Prof Arubayi laughed when told by Vanguard that he was being accused of examination malpractice, saying, “Did the student give me money to change his scores or is he a girl to say that she is my girlfriend, what was done was based on the regulation of the school,”
Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof Chukwuemeka Peter Aloamaka and provost, Dr Ohaju –Obodo  told Vanguard that no unilateral decision was taken by the vice chancellor, as the appropriate organ looked into the matter before upgrading the scores of five to six students based on the institution’s regulation.
